Axiom Engineers: Commissioning

CITY OF MONTEREY SPORTS CENTER, Monterey, CA

The project was a full mechanical design of heating and ventilating, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems for the 15,000 square foot expansion of the City of Monterey Sports Center with special attention to interface the new mechanical systems to existing system capacities.

The extension of existing fire sprinkler and heating hot water systems to the new expansion was closely coordinated with the existing building loads and construction to maintain a continuity of use and appearance.

This facility was expanded to match the existing construction as closely as possible with exception that all new heating and ventilation units would be roof-mounted to save space and open the room volumes as much as possible. High ventilation turnover rates to meet the expected exercise use and to maintain the building life were incorporated into the design. Water saving plumbing fixtures and expanded laundry facilities were also incorporated into the project.

The building opened for public use in the fall of 2002.
