Axiom Engineers: Commissioning

LIVE OAK COMMUNITY RESOURCES CENTER - Santa Cruz, CA

Live Oak Community Center is LEED Platinum certified. This LEED for New Construction includes Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services. The facility is a community center building with classrooms, conference rooms, and office space. The ventilation system emphasizes natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation to draw through adequate outdoor cooling ventilation.
Only the main computer server room and conference room has split system air conditioners.

Heating is provided by radiant floor heating and a high efficiency boiler. This project also includes photo voltaic and emergency generator systems. By utilizing simple and energy efficient systems, the control systems are simplified to thermostat controllers and equipment level controllers, greatly reducing design and engineering costs.

Numerous issues were discovered and resolved due to the commissioning services that ensured occupant comfort and safety. Adequate and efficient air delivery was verified as part of the air balance verification which resulted in several system adjustments.
